Evaluations. Evaluations are available for individuals who 1) work for an employer that is regulated by the Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) and 2) have violated the federal drug and/or alcohol policies. The Department of Transportation oversees six different administrations:
- Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA)
- Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
- Federal Transit Administration (FTA)
- Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)
- Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA)
- United States Coast Guard (USCG)
The Process: Following a violation, individuals must be removed from safety sensitive duties, participate in an evaluation with a qualified D.O.T Substance Abuse Professional, follow through and complete any/all recommendations, participate in a follow-up evaluation, and pass a drug/alcohol test prior to being eligible to return to safety sensitive duties under the D.O.T. Following the return to safety sensitive duties, additional follow-up testing will take place for 6 months to 5 years.
Initial Evaluation: 2 to 3 hours
Follow-Up Evaluation: 30 minutes to 1 hour
Cost of Evaluation: $500
